E-Waste In a very short note
Electronic waste or E waste is created when an electronic product is not working or end of its useful life. Mobile phones, Laptops, Tablets, all the electronics items once they come to the end of their useful lives they start becoming a problem for the planet.
According to UN Report the world produce 48.5 million tons of electronics waste in 2018 and the UN estimates that we could reach 120 million tons of E-waste by 2050.The USA discards 30 million computers each year and 100 million phones are disposed off in Europe each year .The environment protection agency estimated that only 15 to 20 percent of E-waste is recycled and the rest of these electronics waste go directly into landfills.
According to a report by UNEP ' Recycling from E-waste to resources ' the amount of E-waste being produced could rise by almost 500 percent over the next decade in some countries such as india.
E-waste on environment
Toxic materials like lead , zinc, nickel, flame retardant, barium and chromium, found in most electronics, if released into the environment can cause damage to human blood, kidney also nervous system.
the electronics waste which often gets thrown out into landfills release toxins which seepinto ground water .this contamination affects both land and sea animals soil will also result in loss of vegetation
Solution
For tackle this situation we should consider of using reduce, recycle, reuse policy ,UN sustainable development goal 12 talks of the necessity to ''ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns'', establishing of E-waste management. these are some solution we can take to tackle the E- waste situation
i really appreciate your time
